Newspapers Pulling a Dinosaur

I suppose it doesn’t really surprise anyone (does it?) that so many old media outlets have been tanking quicker and quicker.  With the depression (or are we still in a recession, at least according to the network’s sources?) there just isn’t the money to outright fund the newspapers.Even if the economy wasn’t tanking, sooner or later the papers would still be a thing of the past.  Why you may wonder, how can I possibly be so darn sure? The simplicity and instant gratification of so much information at your fingertips that the internet has to offer, to be blunt, renders weekly, and even daily newspapers completely redundant.  Even what were reasonably popular magazines, such as Blender, are going the way of the dinosaur.A joint statement by the owner of Blender and Maxim released a statement:

MAXIM AND MAXIM DIGITAL EDITORIAL TEAMS INTEGRATED TO ALLOW FOR MORE CONTENT DEVELOPMENT AND COVERAGE Joe Levy Named Editor in Chief and Jay Woodruff Named Chief Content Officer of MaximBLENDER MAGAZINE CEASES PUBLICATIONNew York, NY (March 26, 2009) — Maxim and Maxim.com editorial operations have been integrated, it was announced today by Alpha Media Group CEO, Stephen Duggan. Joe Levy has been named Editor in Chief and Jay Woodruff has been named Chief Content Officer of Maxim, the largest young men’s lifestyle brand in America. The integrated editorial operation establishes Maxim as a leader of a 21st Century media strategy that includes print, digital, mobile, television and film.

Quite simply? The revenue isn’t there. Especially for a magazine like Blender, with no full direction (seriously it’s always been pretty much everything, I guess hence the name).Papers are folding all over (sorry). The new media is the way things are heading, more and more. The publications that cannot manage this transition are gone.
